The Associated Press: LaHood confident Senate will rescue car program

60 percent! He must be talking about people trading in their "clunkers" getting 60 percent more, but it sure doesn't read that way. Of course, nobody in the state run media really challenges anything from this administration, so we really don't know what it is. They could have just as easily said 600 percent. I doubt in the end this will be the case. I'm sure there's a lot of fraud going on here. Wouldn't it had been easier (and cheaper) to just give everybody a nice tax cut (and more effective)? I can't imagine how much is being spent on the bureaucracy and disposing of these clunkers. What this will end up doing to the rest of us is we will get to pay for this with tax increases. Another example of how doing these kind of boon dongles just suck money out of the economy, which is exactly what we don't need. The Associated Press: LaHood confident Senate will rescue car program: "WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration appealed to the Senate Monday to bail out the popular but reeling 'cash for clunkers' rebate program, arguing that it already has improved vehicle fuel efficiency by over 60 percent."
