Thoughts on SC nominee Alito and Myers

Conservatives may have screwed this one up. We are now hearing stories about how Alito would probably not overturn Roe V. Wade. This is the biggest Supreme Court decision conservatives want overturned. I'm very certain that Myers would have overturned Roe V. Wade. I believe this was the primary reason Bush picked her. But Alito may give conservatives the fight they have been slobbering for, but he may be a huge dissappointment for them in the end. I'm hearing all kinds of conspiracy stuff coming out of conservatives mouths that I wouldn't have expected. Usually you hear that from liberals. Something seems amiss to me. Some say Miers was a rope-a-dope strategy. That Bush never expected her to make it to the hearings. I doubt that is right, but it's fun to ponder (but no more than ponder). I believe the venom from the right has forced Bush to give them the fight they want. My fear is that conservatives are allowing the wounds of the left to put them in a blood-fest mood. Well, I feel more like an observer now, rather than a hard-right conservative (which I am). It's a conservative's nature to be reactionary, not pro-active. I think we are headed to a major disappointment.

Court Sides With Blogger

FOXNews.com - U.S. & World - Court Sides With Blogger: "'We are concerned that setting the standard too low will chill potential posters from exercising their First Amendment right to speak anonymously,' Steele wrote. 'The possibility of losing anonymity in a future lawsuit could intimidate anonymous posters into self-censoring their comments or simply not commenting at all.'" Now, can anyone possibly show me where "anonymous" free speech is guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution???? This needs to go to the U.S. Supreme court. I don't have much faith in them making the correct decision either.

Roberts Nomination Sent to Full Senate

BREITBART.COM - Just The News: "WASHINGTON The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved John Roberts' nomination as the next Supreme Court chief justice, virtually assuring the conservative judge confirmation by the Senate next week. Three Democrats joined the committee's 10 majority Republicans in a 13-5 vote to advance the nomination to the full Senate. Five Democrats _ Sens. Dianne Feinstein of California, Joseph Biden of Delaware, Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Charles Schumer of New York and Dick Durbin of Illinois _ opposed Roberts."

Specter Urges Delay in Replacement of O'Connor at Supreme Court

Bloomberg.com: U.S.: "Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said he urged President George W. Bush today to delay nominating a replacement for retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Senator Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania, said he talked to Justice O'Connor about staying on the high court. ``She's prepared to do that'' through the court's term ending in June, Specter said. The president ``was noncommittal,'' Specter said. ``The body language was not very positive,'' Specter said." This is why I opposed Specter becoming chairman of the judiciary committee. He is attempting to usurp the President Bush's constitution obligation. But, hey, why not. Michael Jordan reneged on his retirement. That was the NBA. We're only talking about the Third Branch of government here.

Red Disney

This is funny. I've been recommending (tongue in cheek) that we should create Red Zones here in America. These would be areas for Chinese to work here in the US to make their ultra cheap products for us. These areas would, of course, have to be completely enclosed in electric fencing and razor sharp wire, so the communists couldn't have access to our free world. Think how much would be saved in transportation and distribution costs if this was done! No more having to ship tons and tons and tons of product from literally half way around the world. Now it seems that companies, that wouldn't have ever existed if not for a free country, are all too happy to provide their comforts to people who have no chance to experience real freedom. But only under the tightest government restrictions. Disney being the latest, but many others have proceeded them, like Yahoo. I think it's a dirty shame.

Picketers for Hire

Las Vegas Weekly: "The shade from the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market sign is minimal around noon; still, six picketers squeeze their thermoses and Dasani bottles onto the dirt below, trying to keep their water cool. They're walking five-hour shifts on this corner at Stephanie Street and American Pacific Drive in Henderson—anti-Wal-Mart signs propped lazily on their shoulders, deep suntans on their faces and arms—with two 15-minute breaks to run across the street and use the washroom at a gas station."

Not much traction with the abuse

Not much traction with the abuse-Nation/Politics-The Washington Times, America's Newspaper: "The first polls, no surprise, show the libels are not working. A Washington Post-ABC survey found that the president is not seen as the villain the nutcake left is trying to make him out to be. Americans, skeptical as ever, are believing their own eyes." This guy is spot on.

Hurricane fallout hurts Bush, could hurt Republicans

Hurricane fallout hurts Bush, could hurt Republicans - Yahoo! News: "Democrats so far have been slow to criticize, but that is sure to change. Setting the tone, House of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday that Bush displayed a 'failure of leadership,' as the crisis unfolded." This story is completely backwards. I quoted this from it to show how stupid it is. The democrats were the first to criticize and very quick to do so. This is very well documented, btw. Check the Huffinton Post at what RFK Junior had to say. Also, don't forget screaming Dean. Reuters and Alan Elsner are idiots at analyzing.

Bush, Congress to Investigate Response

BREITBART.COM - Just The News: "President Bush and Congress pledged separate investigations into the widely panned federal response to Hurricane Katrina on Tuesday as Senate Democrats said the government's share of relief and recovery may top $150 billion." After fouling on the War in Iraq. After swinging very strong on immigration and missing by a mile. Bush may have very well hit one out of the park with Hurricane Katrina. It looked like a late swing and everyone was guessing he had no chance at connecting but it is turning out to be a solid and perfectly timed hit. It's a horrible trajedy that's happened, but Bush will look very good in the end and the local and state governments (along with beauracrats in general) are going to look very bad. Bush is a great leader. He has to have powerful things happen for the world to see that.

New exhibit at London Zoo - humans - Yahoo! News: "LONDON (AFP) - London Zoo unveiled a new exhibition -- eight humans prowling around wearing little more than fig leaves to cover their modesty. The 'Human Zoo' is intended to show the basic nature of human beings as they frolick throughout the August bank holiday weekend. 'We have set up this exhibit to highlight the spread of man as a plague species and to communicate the importance of man's place in the planet's ecosystem,' London Zoo said. The scantily-clad volunteers will be treated as animals and kept amused at the central London zoo with games and music."

CNN.com - Prosecutors get some Limbaugh medical records - Jul 7, 2005

CNN.com - Prosecutors get some Limbaugh medical records - Jul 7, 2005: "In a statement, Black said he was confident that prosecutors 'will find nothing in these records to support a charge of doctor shopping, because there was no doctor shopping.' Limbaugh's attorney also said the prescription records would show that the radio host was only prescribed an average dose of a little more than eight hydrocodone pills a day over a seven-month period, 'which is not excessive and is in fact a lawful dose.' Hydrocodone is a potent painkiller that can become addictive. Black also said 92 percent of the pain medication was prescribed by two doctors treating Limbaugh for back pain, who both work in the same office. The rest were prescribed by a California surgeon who performed cochlear implant surgery to restore Limbaugh's hearing and a Florida doctor who followed up on the surgery, who also wrote prescriptions for vitamin pills and a medication to combat tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, he said. 'The bottom line is that these prescription records might tell a story, but it is not a story of doctor shopping,' Black said." See, I Told You So.

Chrysler Matches GM, Ford on Discount Plan

My Way Finance: "DETROIT, Jul 06, 2005 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group began offering employee discounts to all consumers Wednesday, following the lead of General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. Chrysler is also offering cash incentives on top of the lower prices." This was expected, I guess. I like to make predictions, but I admit I'm usually off timewise. My prediction is oil is way inflated today. That there is plenty of supply and we have a bubble on the price right now. I think by the end of summer, beginning of fall, the bubble will begin to burst. There will be a large drop in oil price, say like greater than 20% in a short period of time (like within a month). This will cause a huge up tick in stock prices. If war (or new war) breaks out, and I mean major war, then this will cause a huge slide and create that depression that is due. Of course, I'm hoping for the up tick, I don't want the depression.

Court: Some Ten Commandments Displays OK

My Way News: "WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court struggled in a pair of 5-4 rulings Monday to define how much blending of church and state is constitutionally permissible, allowing the Ten Commandments to be displayed outside the Texas state capitol but not inside Kentucky courthouses." Very confusing. In one case, the SC removes federal courts from the process all together, and in this case they interject the federal courts at every level.

Supreme Court Rules Cities May Seize Homes

My Way News: "WASHINGTON (AP) - A divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses against their will for private development in a decision anxiously awaited in communities where economic growth often is at war with individual property rights. The 5-4 ruling represented a defeat for some Connecticut residents whose homes are slated for destruction to make room for an office complex. They argued that cities have no right to take their land except for projects with a clear public use, such as roads or schools, or to revitalize blighted areas. As a result, cities now have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes in order to generate tax revenue." Heinous. The biggest attack on personal rights I have seen recently from the court (since Terri Shiavo declared not worthy of living by a SINGLE state judge). I simply am shocked at this decision. I feel the courts have greatly empowered the government at my expense.

Poll: Do American Evangelicals ''Walk the Walk?''

The Christian Post: "Four out of 10 Americans identify themselves as evangelical, but a much smaller percentage walk the walk, according to a newly released Gallup poll on Americas religious trends. The Gallup Organization polled 1,000 U.S. adults in mid-April and found that 42 percent labeled themselves born-again or evangelical. However, in a survey held one month later on 1,000 Americans, the poll found that only about a quarter of the population hold to core evangelical doctrines. Gallup identified three core evangelical beliefs as: believing that the Bible is the actual word of God, engaging in evangelism by encouraging friends and relatives to believe in Jesus, and having undergone a born-again experience. The results found that 52 percent of Americans engages in evangelism, 48 percent underwent a born-again experience, and 32 percent believes the Bible is the actual word of God. However, only 22 percent were found to hold all three beliefs. It has been difficult for experts to get an accurate read on the percentage of evangelicals in the United States, and estimates can vary widely, Albert L. Winseman, Gallups religion and social trends editor, wrote in announcing the data. Looking only at the basic Gallup Poll self identification question, it would appear that evangelical Christians make up a sizeable portion of Americans. However, when analyzing respondents answers to three questions that most evangelical leaders would say are core evangelical doctrine, the percentage is much smaller. pauline@christianpost.com"

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2005: "'Thought police' patrol Russian transport hubs Wed Jun 08 2005 11:35:43 ET Police officers specializing in mental and physical profiling of criminal suspects will patrol airports and train stations in Russia under measures against terrorist and other crimes during the summer tourist season, ITAR-TASS news agency said Wednesday. 'Dozens of plainclothes officers are currently on duty at airports and train stations and public gathering places,' the news agency quoted First Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Chekalin as saying following a meeting of law enforcement officers in the southern Russian city of Tuapse. 'These police officers have special training in psychology and physiognomy,' Chekalin said. 'By observing behavior, appearance, hand baggage and contact with others, they can quickly spot a person intent on committing a crime, carrying out a terrorist attack, an extremist act or other serious crimes.' Russia was shaken by a string of attacks last August and September, including the simultaneous downing of two passenger jets in different parts of the country, a rush-hour suicide bomb attack outside a busy Moscow metro and the Beslan school hostage tragedy. After 4 Years, Owen Gets Confirmation Vote

My Way NewsWASHINGTON (AP) - The filibuster fight over for now, the Senate finally is ready to confirm Priscilla Owen as a federal judge, ending a four-year effort by Democrats to derail one of President Bush's prime judicial nominees. Some are saying Republicans really lost here. But I feel great to see several conservative judges being appointed for life. No matter how I think of it, it seems more of a loss for Democrats. Conservative judges will finally get through to very important courts. McCain didn't win either. You see, since Frist wasn't involved in these negotiations, neither Bush, then I really don't expect them to honor the so called Maverick senators. If the Democrats choose to fillibuster again, then Frist can simply invoke the Constitutional requirement of the Senate to approve or reject judicial appointments. Rush was saying that it will be looked as much more valid if the mavericks say a nominee is extreme, at least by the media. So what? The media keeps losing right along with the Democrats. The mavericks will be shown to be the most partisan out there if they start the judicial fillibusters again. No, I think this is a good victory for Republicans, not the glorious one we were looking for, but it will do for now.

Today's high gas prices have many roots

Yahoo! News - Today's high gas prices have many roots: "The most obvious villains are the giant oil companies and rich oil countries such as Saudi Arabia. Soldier Killed in Iraq Gets Medal of Honor

Yahoo! News - Soldier Killed in Iraq Gets Medal of Honor By Peter Baker Ambushed, outnumbered and under fire, Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith took matters into his own hands. Jumping on top of an armored vehicle in place of its injured crew, he aimed a .50-caliber machine gun at the advancing Iraqi Republican Guard and opened fire. By the time he had gone through three ammunition belts, the enemy attack had been repulsed and his unit saved. According to the Army's official account, Smith single-handedly killed 20 to 50 enemy soldiers and saved 100 of his own. The only American to die in the skirmish that night outside Baghdad was Smith, struck down by a bullet to the head. Now, two years to the day after the firefight that cost him his life, the United States has certified its first official hero from the Iraq war. In an emotional ceremony in the East Room of the White House yesterday, President Bush posthumously awarded Smith the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest recognition for bravery in combat and a medal issued so rarely that no U.S. soldier has received it since an ill-fated mission in Somalia a dozen years ago. "Sergeant Smith gave his all for his men," the president said. "Five days later, Baghdad fell and the Iraqi people were liberated. . . . We count ourselves blessed to have soldiers like Sergeant Smith, who put their lives on the line to advance the cause of freedom and protect the American people." Bush presented the five-point star to Smith's 11-year-old son, David, while teary-eyed relatives and grim-faced soldiers watched. As the citation was read, David looked down and Bush gently patted the boy's back. Smith's stepdaughter, Jessica, 18, wiped her eyes, as his widow, Birgit, struggled to contain the emotion that creased her face. When the citation reading ended, Bush reached over and kissed Birgit Smith on the cheek as the assembled service members rose to their feet and applauded. "It's an important testimony first off that a soldier's being awarded this while the conflict's still going on," Col. William F. Grimsley, who commanded the brigade to which Smith was attached in Iraq, said in an interview last week. "And frankly it serves as a huge motivation for all of us." The medal put Smith in a pantheon that includes Theodore Roosevelt, Sgt. Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Jimmy Doolittle and Douglas MacArthur. Created by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Medal of Honor is awarded only for the most extraordinary action on the battlefield, or "conspicuous gallantry above and beyond the call of duty." Gen. George S. Patton once said he would "sell my immortal soul" for one and President Harry S. Truman said he would rather have "the Medal of Honor around my neck than be president." Only 3,400 of the medals have been awarded over the past 144 years, and virtually none in the modern era. Just two soldiers have received the medal for action since Vietnam, both for valor during the disastrous 1993 battle in Mogadishu later memorialized in the book and movie "Black Hawk Down." No medals were awarded for operations in Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo or Afghanistan, and no others so far for the current war in Iraq. Bush called Smith's award "the first Medal of Honor in the war on terror." This is only the good parts of the story. I tried to remove the (liberal) garbage. Check the link if you care to read it all.

Canadian seal cull sparks protests

Canadian seal cull sparks protests - Yahoo! UK & Ireland News: "Thousands of seal hunters armed with clubs, rifles and spears are taking part in one of Canada's biggest ever culls. The hunt is expected to bring poor coastal communities millions of dollars but has been condemned by animal rights activists as barbaric. More than 320,000 harp seals are expected to be slaughtered by the end of the cull on May 15. The controversial hunt - target of protests since the 1960s - traditionally begins about two weeks after the seal pups are born and their fur changes from white to grey. Animal rights activists say the pups are clubbed to death and often skinned alive, but sealers and government officials who monitor the hunt insist the pups die instantly under strict guidelines. Regulations require that hunters ensure their prey is dead before moving on. Many countries, including the US, ban imports of seal products. But the Canadian government said the hunt brought badly needed income to its coastal communities, which earned about 7.2 million last year, primarily from pelt sales to Norway, Denmark and China. Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans said the country's seal population was 'healthy and abundant,' and noted there were an estimated 5 million harp seals, nearly the highest level ever recorded and almost triple what it was in the 1970s. But a report by the International Fund for Animal Welfare warned that the cull will damage the marine mammal population. IFAW spokesman AJ Cady said: 'It's not about the price. What's a seal pup worth? It's worth more than a few dollars for a pelt and the price for level of suffering is just not acceptable. 'Just today, we found a seal pup that was struck and lost. It was clubbed and escaped and died under the ice.'" And this is where all the liberal want to go? I've heard a seal bashing club is issued to each new citizen.

Court to Weigh Schiavo Emergency Motion

My Way News: "PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - A federal appeals court agreed to consider an emergency bid by Terri Schiavo's parents for a new hearing on whether to reconnect her feeding tube, raising their fading hopes of keeping the severely brain-damaged woman alive." ... "Dr. Sean Morrison, a professor of palliative medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, said it's hard to predict what would happen if the tube were reinserted because it's highly unusual to do that after life-prolonging treatments have been stopped. "He said that if her kidneys have already shut down, reinserting the tube at this point might prolong her life by just hours or days. However, it could also hasten her death, Morrison said, because it would supply fluids to a body that can no longer get rid of them. "The resulting fluid buildup could essentially drown Schiavo, and she could die gasping and choking, he said. "Morrison said Schiavo would have no awareness of this because of her persistent vegetative state, but reinserting the tube might 'transform a peaceful death into one that can be very distressing for families and friends to witness.'" If starvation was so peaceful and euphoric then why did they give her a morphine drip? I know why, because Terri was moaning from... yes, the PAIN. So, we should be under the opinion now that because she's gone through so much already (but no suffering mind you) it would be cruel to try and save her life. What's cruel is a judge (and those that agree with him) who thinks he has the power to take innocent life without any oversight.

With no evidence that Terry would want to end her life, her parents willing to assume responsibility for her care and let Michael Schiavo walk away, why must she die? U.S. Refuses One-On-One North Korea Talks

My Way News: "'It's not an issue between North Korea and the United States. It's a regional issue,' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. 'And it's an issue that impacts all of its neighbors.' North Korea has plenty of opportunity to talk to the United States within six-party talks, McClellan said. In an interview with a South Korean newspaper Friday, North Korea's U.N. envoy demanded bilateral talks with the United States. 'We will return to the six-nation talks when we see a reason to do so and the conditions are ripe,' Han Sung Ryol told Seoul's Hankyoreh newspaper in an interview published Friday. 'If the United States moves to have direct dialogue with us, we can take that as a signal that the United States is changing its hostile policy toward us.' U.S. officials believe North Korea, which is seeking bilateral talks with the United States, may have from four to two dozen nuclear devices, depending on the assumptions used about the bombs' designs." So why should the talks stop just because North Korea refuses to take part? We should continue the discussion of what to do with North Korea even if they refuse to take part. We should not allow them power in this by stopping the negotiations. We should continue discussing with the other members how to handle North Korea. Everybody knows that they are going to drop a nuke on us if we don't stop them. The only question is how many Americans are willing to die to prevent that and is that enough to stop them.

Some Dems nervous as Dean resurges

Yahoo! News - Some Dems nervous as Dean resurges: "Dean was a fiscal conservative and supported gun rights as governor. But he came across in his presidential campaign as a dovish Northeastern liberal with a tendency to commit gaffes, such as his 'scream' speech after losing the Iowa caucuses. Not the obvious choice for a party struggling to find a camera-ready leader, increase its appeal in Republican-leaning states and convince people it can keep them safe." Go Dean! I really do hope he doesn't pull a "Dean" this time. (A "Dean" is when one is very far ahead in the polls and then loses it all at the last moment.)

Cookie klatch lands girls in court

DenverPost.com - LOCAL NEWS: "Cookie klatch lands girls in court" This is almost unbelievable. It has very little to do with politics but struck me as so absurd, I figured I would blog it.

Dean Emerging as Likely Chief for Democrats

The New York Times > Washington > Dean Emerging as Likely Chief for Democrats: "Republicans, who had already been portraying the Democrats as obstructionist and extreme, seemed somewhere between being delighted and amused to have Dr. Dean to kick around again, instantly invoking a defining moment in his career. 'After 10 years, you wonder if Democrats are running out of ways to say no,' said Representative Tom DeLay of Texas, the House majority leader. 'But then again, if they make Howard Dean the party chairman, I guess you could scream it.' Richard Bond, the former head of the Republican National Committee, said: 'He's a very capable guy, he's got high energy, but he will reinforce all of their worst instincts. His style and message is one that will narrow his party's options rather than expand them.' 'I think it's a scream,' Mr. Bond said." If Dean really does make it (it wouldn't be the first time he was way ahead and lost it all) then I'd say that this is the nail in the coffin for liberals. Dean will accelerate the demise of the democratic party as it is known today (full of wacked-out liberals) and that should encourage the conservative democrats to finally take the party back.

Iraqis Defy Threats to Vote for Assembly

My Way News: "Uncertain Sunni turnout, a string of insurgent attacks that killed 44 and the crash of a British military plane drove home that chaos in Iraq isn't over yet. Yet the mere fact the vote went off seemed to ricochet instantly around a world hoping for Arab democracy and fearing Islamic extremism. 'I am doing this because I love my country, and I love the sons of my nation,' said Shamal Hekeib, 53, who walked with his wife 20 minutes to a polling station near his Baghdad home. 'We are Arabs, we are not scared and we are not cowards,' Hekeib said."

IRAQ ELECTIONS

: "After all car movements were prohibited, thousands of Iraqis make a trip on foot to the town of Al Alamara, Iraq, to place their votes Sunday, Jan. 30 2005. Iraqis turned out to vote Sunday in their country's first free election in a half-century, defying insurgents who launched deadly suicide bombings and mortar strikes at polling stations. By midday, at least 29 people were dead but the violence had slowed and voting picked up." Bush really hung it out there on this vote. It appears it will prove much of what he's been saying about how Iraqis want to have this freedom. So much for the argument that you can't bring freedom and democracy to those who really don't want it bad enough to instate for themselves. What a way for Secretary Rice to start off.

State Helps Suicidal Man Accomplish What He Couldn't

"GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) The district attorney says the man accused of causing the deadly train crash has been charged with murder, with special circumstances making him eligible for the death penalty."

Bush Orders an End to Hiring Columnists

My Way News: "Several investigations, including one by Congress' investigative arm, the Government Accountability Office, and the Education Department, are under way. They are looking into whether any laws were broken - and if so, by whom - when Williams was given the money to produce television and radio ads promoting the No Child Left Behind Act."

My Way News

My Way News: "Democrats registered their unhappiness with Bush's handling of Iraq in the Senate's 85-13 vote to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state. It was the strongest negative vote against a secretary of state since 1825." Good grief. The press will do whatever they can to twist the story againt Bush. No matter what they say, the truth is Rice was confirmed with 85 votes, greater than a super majority. Yet another win for conservatives.

Senate Confirms Rice As Secretary of State

My Way News: "WASHINGTON (AP) - Condoleezza Rice won easy confirmation Wednesday to be President Bush's new secretary of state, despite strong dissent from a small group of Democrats who said she shares blame for mistakes and war deaths in Iraq. The Senate voted 85 to 13 to confirm Rice, who succeeds Colin Powell as America's top diplomat and becomes the first black woman to hold the job." Boxer, Kennedy, and the other ultra-liberal democrats are in serious trouble. They've been designated to be attack dogs because they are "safe" (there seems no possible way to kick them out of office any time soon). Yet, even after their viscous attacks on Rice, such as directly calling her a liar (very rare to come from politicians), they could only muster 13 votes against her. I would have expected this to be the typical partisan vote. This indicates to me that there are democrats wanting a change in their party. Good for them. Couple this with the recent conservative rhetoric from Hillary Clinton regarding abortion. The ultra-libs may think they are "safe," but I think they are going to start seeing some major, major pressure to back down now.

Rice Confirmed

"WASHINGTON (AP) The Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly confirmed Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state after a host of Democrats harshly criticized Bush administration Iraq policy."

A QUESTION OF DISCLOSURE

Welcome to uExpress featuring Maggie Gallagher -- The Best Advice and Opinions The Universe!: "A QUESTION OF DISCLOSURE" It's very likely the Maggie Gallagher will suffer greatly with this. I also am pretty we'll see some some serious consequences for the adminstration people responsible for these contracts. But this is typical when you see questionably ethics from republicans. The response seems to be very harsh and swift. Republicans are always harder on fellow republicans. Contrast this with democrats. You rarely see punishment for ethics violations. On the contrary, many times democrats are rewarded by fellow democrats. Senator Byrd, for example, was a KKK member, has used the phrase "white n*" on a news program, and I'm sure many, many other racial slurs. He is regarded as one of the highest leaders in the democrat party.

Yahoo! News - Fla. Loses Appeal in Terri Schiavo Case

Yahoo! News - Fla. Loses Appeal in Terri Schiavo Case: "The decision was criticized as 'judicial homicide' by Mrs. Schiavo's father, Robert Schindler, but applauded by her husband, Michael Schiavo, who contends his wife never wanted to be kept alive artificially." Sure, why not? A baby is unable to say "I want to live" so, maybe we should just murder every human unable to communcate.

Dustin Hoffman Denies Relocation Plans

Yahoo! News - Dustin Hoffman Denies Relocation Plans: "'I was doing some publicity for this movie in the states, and one of the things they asked was don't I have a place in London? I said, `Yes, for 25 years, but we haven't been able to use it as much as we want because we didn't like to separate from the kids. So with five kids over the past 35 years, I've lived my life scheduled around the school year. The last kid is in the house, she graduates in five months and I'm going to get to London as soon as I can and finally make use of the place.' 'That turned into: `I'm moving to get away from (President) Bush,'' Hoffman said. He added: 'That's silly. You can't go anywhere in the world to get away from Bush.'"

Russian Lawmakers Targets Jewish Groups

Yahoo! News - Russian Lawmakers Targets Jewish Groups: "MOSCOW - A group of nationalist Russian lawmakers called Monday for a sweeping investigation aimed at outlawing all Jewish organizations and punishing officials who support them, accusing Jews of fomenting ethnic hatred and saying they provoke anti-Semitism. In a letter dated Jan. 13, about 20 members of the lower house of parliament, the State Duma, asked Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov to investigate their claims and to launch proceedings 'on the prohibition in our country of all religious and ethnic Jewish organizations as extremist.'"

Iraq Forces Arrest Top al-Qaida Lieutenant

ABC News: Iraq Forces Arrest Top al-Qaida Lieutenant: "A top lieutenant of al-Zarqawi's terror group, Sami Mohammed Ali Said al-Jaaf, also known as Abu Omar al-Kurdi, was arrested during a raid in Baghdad on Jan. 15, a government statement said Monday. Al-Jaaf was responsible for 32 car bombings that killed hundreds of Iraqis and was linked to the August 2003 bombing of U.N. headquarters in Baghdad that killed the top U.N. envoy in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, and 21 others, the statement said." This quote is taken from 1/2 way down the story. Have you ever noticed how the MSM hates to print anything that suggests that the good guys are winning?

Way Too Much God

OpinionJournal - Peggy Noonan: "Was the president's speech a case of 'mission inebriation'? " What is going on? It seems some wacked-out liberal has hijacked Peggy Noonan's password and posted this opinion piece in her name. It literally saddened me to read it. She actually states "This world is not heaven." Duh. Does she really think President Bush is trying to make it so? If anyone knows that man does not have the power or authority to make the world into heaven, it's George W. Bush! The president NEVER stated that he intends to conquer tyranny in the NEXT FOUR YEARS. An inaugural speech should pronounce the ideologic core of the incoming president. Of course, we should strive to end tyranny. Geesh, people need to get a grip. Bush is the most well grounded person I've seen. Maybe all the constant nagging and complaining from liberals is really getting to Noonan (and others). You know, just because someone screams "The sky is falling!" (or "Global Warming!") 10 million times in a row, it simply does not change the truth. The sky is blue, Peggy. I used to be such an admirer of Peggy Noonan. This piece is giving me second thoughts.

Students Strip Searched In Hunt For Missing $10 Bill

local6.com - News - Students Strip Searched In Hunt For Missing $10 Bill: "TEXAS CITY, Texas -- Some parents were up in arms Friday after 10 students were strip-searched for a missing $10 bill at an award-winning charter school in Texas. The incident happened Thursday at Mainland Preparatory Academy near Texas City, The Galveston County Daily News reported. Principal Wilma Green said seven girls and three boys -- ages 11 and 12 -- had been in study hall when they were told to strip to their underwear. She said the boys were sent off with a male teacher and the girls with a female teacher for the searches. Green said the disrobing was nothing different from what the children would have done for gym class. She added none of the children objected because they wanted to prove their innocence. But one boy's mother was so infuriated that she's filed a complaint with police and pulled her four children from the school."

Dollar Surges Against Euro in Reversal

Yahoo! News - Dollar Surges Against Euro in Reversal: "Drossos said comments from U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow on the dollar helped to accelerate the currency's gains. 'We want to do things to sustain the strength of the dollar; among them is going to the Congress to work on the deficit, to bring the deficit down,' Snow told CNBC TV. Drossos said '(Snow's) comments along with the more hawkish tone we've heard from the Fed really call into question whether there's unequivocal preference for a weak dollar by U.S. authorities.' " This is pretty much what I've been expecting. I will predict that the next phase is to finally get the Chinese yuan unhooked from the dollar.

Pulled advertising from Sinclair news

My email to Staples: "Dear Staples Co.: You have made a grave error, imo in pulling your advertising from Sinclair news programs. You have been a target of liberal activist groups. I got this email from http://www.sinclairaction.org/contact_static.html (a liberal activist organization targeting Sinclair). I am a conservative and many other conservatives that watch conservative biased programming. By pulling your advertising from conservative programs, you are limiting your audience. Why would people against a Sinclair program email you their grievance? It's not because they actually watch the show, it's because you have been targeted. There is no shame in advertising on any politically charged program. It doesn't mean you endorse them, it just means you want to advertise to their audience. You should stand up for your right to advertise where you want despite threats of protest from any group. Because of your decision to not advertise on Sinclair news programs, you will no longer receive my patronage as I must assume you do not wish conservative minded people to shop at your store. Regretfully, Thomas C. Pope" There reply: "Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Our media buying process with Sinclair Broadcasting stations has recently been misrepresented by an organization with no affiliation to Staples. Staples regularly drops and adds specific programs from our media buying schedule, as we evaluate and adjust how to best reach our customers. We do not let political agendas drive our media buying decisions. Staples does not support any political party. We advertise with a variety of media outlets, but do not necessarily share the same views of these organizations or what they report. As we have done for a number of years, Staples will continue to advertise on Sinclair Broadcasting stations. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Staples" Fantastic! I'm very pleased that they are standing up against this liberal scourge (I know, that's redundant).

Yahoo! News - Democrats to Force Debate on Ohio Results: "Many Democrats oppose challenging the Ohio vote, concerned that it would do little but antagonize voters who consider the election over. Say nothing at all during the debate. This type of absurdity needs no comment whatsoever.
