My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq

My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq: "'We discovered several (weapons) caches, a torture facility that had chains, a bed - an iron bed that was still connected to a battery - knives and swords that were still covered in blood as we went in to go after the terrorists in that area,' said Army Maj. Gen. Mark P. Hertling, the top U.S. commander in northern Iraq." But no water boarding equipment?

My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq

My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq: "The torture center, which the U.S. military said it suspected was run by al-Qaida in Iraq, was found based on tips from Iraqis in the area, where the al-Qaida insurgents are very active. Graves containing 26 bodies were found nearby." I wonder if they got the memo that water boarding is no longer allowed. But seriously, they torture and kill people with their suiciders and we just poor some water on one of their leaders and he cries like a baby and spills all kinds of information.

My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq

My Way News - Torture Center Found in Northern Iraq: "Separately, at least 13 Iraqis were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a group of people who had gathered around U.S. soldiers handing out holiday gifts northeast of Baghdad, authorities said. It was not immediately known if any soldiers were killed or wounded." This so infuriates me. I can't express how much I want to destroy these people. They work for the Enemy.

So did Jose Canseco. Andy Pettitte, Eric Gagne and Miguel Tejada also became part of baseball's most infamous lineup since the 1919 Black Sox scandal. But they didn't get the worst of it Thursday. That infamy belonged to Clemens, the greatest pitcher of his era. The Steroids Era."

My Way News - Second Life's CTO Resigns: "Pastafarianism - in which the universe's creator resembles spaghetti and meatballs - is the brain child of a physics graduate student at Oregon State University, who in 2005 wanted to protest the Kansas State Board of Education's decision to require the teaching of intelligent design." Whether or not a school teaches Evolution, Creationism, or Intelligent Design or even this idiot's request, Pastafarianism should always be left to the community. So, I have no problem if Mr. Ondrejka's community decided that teaching their kids to be idiots like him is what they wanted.

My Way News - Police Release Images of Mall Gunman

My Way News - Police Release Images of Mall Gunman

State officials, aquaintances and police have described Hawkins as having a troubled past. He had broken up with a girlfriend recently and lost his job. Acquaintances said he was a drug user and that he had a history of depression.

Hawkins spent four years in a series of treatment centers, group homes and foster care after threatening to kill his stepmother in 2002, state officials said.

In August 2006, social workers, the courts and his father all agreed: It was time for Hawkins to be released - nine months before he turned 19 and would have been required to leave anyway.

After reviewing surveillance tape, a suicide note and Hawkins' last conversations with those close to him, police said they don't know - and may never know - exactly why Hawkins went to the mall and opened fire.

About an hour before the shootings, Hawkins called Debora Maruca-Kovac, a woman who with her husband took Hawkins into their home because he had no other place to live. He told her he had written a suicide note, Maruca-Kovac said. In the note, Hawkins wrote that he was "sorry for everything" and would not be a burden on his family anymore.

My Way News - Chavez Loses Constitutional Vote: "CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Humbled by his first electoral defeat ever, President Hugo Chavez said Monday he may have been too ambitious in asking voters to let him stand indefinitely for re-election and endorse a huge leap to a socialist state." Chavez now has to relinquish power in 2012. I doubt it. This man is a dictator. Maybe his country doesn't quite get it yet, but they will. I think the results are meaningless because Chavez can do whatever he wants still and no one can stop him. He's already shown that before.

My Way News - Bush to Democrats: 'We Are at War'
"Unfortunately, on too many issues, some in Congress are behaving as if America is not at war," Bush said during a speech at the Heritage Foundation. "This is no time for Congress to weaken the Department of Justice by denying it a strong and effective leader. ... It's no time for Congress to weaken our ability to intercept information from terrorists about potential attacks on the United States of America. And this is no time for Congress to hold back vital funding for our troops as they fight al-Qaida terrorists and radicals in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Jury: Westboro must pay $10.9 million

Jury: Westboro must pay $10.9 million - Examiner.com: "BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Albert Snyder might have financially immobilized the Kansas church that picketed at his son’s military funeral to intentionally inflict emotional distress on him and his family." Westboro Baptist Church : Fred Phelps: "The Westboro Baptist Church, of Topeka, Kansas, is a hate group masquerading as a Christian church. Led by the Rev. Fred Phelps, the misguided members of this church target homosexuals and a range of others with messages of hate. The church’s ourageous protest actions - the group prefers to picket funerals(!) - have earned the Phelps and his ilk much media coverage." This Fred Phelps is working for the devil. He gives Fundamental Baptists (which I am) a bad name. He's disgraceful. Independent Fundamental Baptists believe in the Holy Bible. My church, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coraville, Iowa, uses the King James Version. We believe that the Bible is inerrant and that it was inspired (literally means "breathed into") by the Almighty God, Himself. We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as described in the Bible. If there is a conflict of opinion, we always hold up the Word of God above everything. But a person must also study the Bible to fully understand. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 We don't believe in anything like this crazy guy, Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church.

FOXNews.com - Nicole Kidman Is 'Golden' in Holiday Smash - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment: "Now comes Kidman in “The Golden Compass,” the first part of a trilogy based on very popular novels by Phil Pullman called “His Dark Materials.” New Line Cinema, the folks who brought you “The Lord of the Rings” is behind this one, too, with Mark Ordesky again taking up the reins. I’ve now seen about a half hour of it, and without a doubt, “The Golden Compass” will be the big holiday smash hit for which Hollywood is so desperate." Sounds like an Alice In Wonderland knockoff. Also sounds like another Harry Potter. I know the author is an atheist activist. Interestingly, we are currently studying the end times at my church (Tabernacle Baptist). Two of the verses we are studying are 2 Peter 3:3-4:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

My Way News - Jury Mulled $3.6 Million Download Award: "MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Some of the jurors who levied a $222,000 penalty last week against a Minnesota woman for illegally sharing music online would have liked her to pay the maximum $3.6 million penalty, one juror said." What if she didn't do it? What if she was framed? Did they have real proof she was file sharing the songs on Kazaa or did the jury just believe the RIAA because they weren't savvy enough in computers? Makes me think of that substitute teacher who was found guilty of showing pornography to students when it was obvious that she was just being slammed by pop-ups. It's becoming more and more dangerous to just use a computer on the Internet these days.

My Way News - U.S. Commander: Violence Down in Baghdad

My Way News - U.S. Commander: Violence Down in Baghdad: "BAGHDAD (AP) - The No. 2 U.S. commander in Iraq said Thursday that a seven-month-old security operation has cut violence in Baghdad by half, but he acknowledged that civilians were still dying at too high a rate." Citizens of Iraq will have to feel a certain level of security before freedom of speech can occur. This is the essence of a "free" society, that is the ability to say whatever you want to without repercussions. Now that is idealistic or perfect scenario that cannot be achieved but can be approached. Our forces must maintain this level of security for a undetermined length of time in order for Iraqis to fully engage in an American-style of democracy. The Iraqis will also need to perceive this level of security even after we leave. Our military has been charged with this task also. This success is hard to qualify or quantify. You can set all the benchmarks you want, but none them will guarantee success. You have to do this empirically because there are an infinite number of unknown factors to consider. You essentially give your best guess, based on historical data, and then test the waters in as safe of way as possible. We are likely far from this, but it is achievable if given enough time. Where have we failed here then? Well, as much as I detest saying it because it gives ammo to the liberal hordes, it's up to the president (and to a lesser extent, congress) to rally the home front. Bush has unfortunately failed to do this to the level it needs to be done. To his defense, he has been surprisingly flanked by his fellow Americans to his detriment. We that support this cause have the foresight to understand what the consequences will be if we fail, but have not been able to persuade those against the war. There is a logical and analytical solution to this. The first step is to convince all Americans that we really have the same goal, enough security to keep us free.

My Way News - Texas Startup Says It Has Batteries Beat: "An Austin-based startup called EEStor promised 'technologies for replacement of electrochemical batteries,' meaning a motorist could plug in a car for five minutes and drive 500 miles roundtrip between Dallas and Houston without gasoline." Do you believe it? I'm highly skeptical when I see claims like this. However, it is also exciting to imagine. I remember years ago thinking that capacitors seem like a better solution than batteries, but when I looked into it, I found the main problem is leakage, that is, electrons "leaking" across the insulator. I'm not an expert, but I understand the basic principles here. EEStor may indeed be pulling a fast one here, but they are saying interesting things when they say they improved the insulating material to accomplish this. We'll see.

I know I certainly have troubles and I'm a mortgage holder. I'd love to get services and products for free, but I'm smarter than that. My Way News - U.S. Seeks to Curb Illegal Immigration

WASHINGTON (AP) - A crackdown on illegal immigration will have to go forward without help from Congress, the Bush administration said Friday, asserting that an executive-branch-only approach is better than doing nothing.

The officials said they'll rely instead on tools already in their arsenal, some of which are already under way, including a plan to administratively sanction employers who hire illegal immigrants.

My Way News - U.S. Ready for Direct Talks With Iran

WASHINGTON (AP) - The United States is ready to hold new direct talks with Iran on the deteriorating security situation in Iraq, where the Bush administration accused Tehran of supporting Shia insurgents, the State Department said Tuesday.

"We think that given the situation in Iraq and given Iran's continued behavior that is leading to further instability in Iraq, that it would be appropriate to have another face-to-face meeting," spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

He said no date for the talks, which would be held in Baghdad, had yet been arranged.

Translation: We know what you're doing, we now have solid evidence of it, and this is your last warning to cease and desist. We will take out your training camps and anything else we feel is necessary to ensure our safety. I don't think we can sustain a full occupation of Iran. So, my guess is we intend to wipe out as much as we can of their attack capability (especially missiles). This will include destroying any known training facilities, and as much of their military as possible from the air. We most likely have already been positioning ourselves to repel any attack, but I don't think we would move ground forces into Iran. As a bonus for the rest of the world and us, we will destroy their nuclear plant and any capability to enrich uranium. If we are going to do this, we have to do it this year. Starting this during a presidential election will guarantee failure for us. So, my best guess is it will happen by the end of November or never. By the way, I wanted to get this out, there has been attempts to better define victory in Iraq. Our victory in Iraq should be complete and total destruction of terrorists. That's it. The definition of terrorist for us should be anyone desiring to kill Americans or our allies and willing to act on it. The president made a miscalculation during the illegal immigration fight and his support has eroded because of it to dangerous levels. The thing that angered me the most is this question "So, do you expect us to deport 12 million plus people now?" So now the number of people who break our laws will determine what's right? Isn't that called "Mob rule"?

iPhone buyers have no regrets - Yahoo! News

Early iPhone owners are overwhelmingly happy with their devices, a survey out Friday says, and Apple (AAPL) and AT&T (T) are luring customers from rivals as a result. In one of the first such studies, 90% of 200 owners said they were "extremely" or "very" satisfied with their phone. And 85% said they are "extremely" or "very" likely to recommend the device to others, says the online survey conducted and paid for by market researcher Interpret of Santa Monica, Calif. The firm surveyed 1,000 cellphone users July 6-10.
"Off the charts." Better go buy Apple stock. Google and Apple should get together. That combination may indeed be the final straw that breaks the Microsoft/Intel camel's back. Google/Apple is the new guard, Microsoft/Intel are the old guard. Yahoo is becoming the odd man out.

My Way News - White House Awaits September Iraq Review

My Way News - White House Awaits September Iraq Review: "Democrats said the only way Baghdad and its neighbors would take more responsibility in Iraq would be if the U.S. starts to pull out." I believe this indicates a possible new strategy for democrats, that pulling out is the only way for Iraqis to take responsibility. This is a trial balloon by their willing accomplices in the media to see if it sticks.

My Way News - Dems Call for Combat to End by 2008

My Way News - Dems Call for Combat to End by 2008: "WASHINGTON (AP) - A senior Democrat said Tuesday it was obvious the Iraqi government has made no progress and the only way to propel it was to begin pulling out U.S. troops. In a countermove, President Bush's national security adviser Stephen Hadley and war adviser Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute arrived on Capitol Hill to consult with members. Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, proposed legislation with Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., that would order President Bush to begin pulling out troops in 120 days and end combat by April 30, 2008." We all wish we could just wave a magic wand and declare "it's over". The democrats have been watching too much Harry Potter, because we don't live in a world like that. The consequences have been articulated very well what is going to happen if we surrender Iraq to al qaeda. Al qaeda will turn Iraq into an islamic state of their vision. They will use it as their base to launch operations to kill America. No matter how you feel about the president, we must understand that this is a war that our enemy will not quit. They must be destroyed or else we will. The truth is that it will be necessary for us to stay in Iraq for a long time. Most likely for at least a generation, maybe 30 years. The middle east must be transformed from it's current state of hatred and bitterness towards Israel and the U.S. And this will take at minimum one generation to begin the transformation. The enemy has been allowed to brain wash their children with this hatred for generations. It will take a long to time to teach them not to hate.

My Way News - Bush Wipes Away Libby's Prison Sentence

WASHINGTON (AP) - Just when things looked darkest for I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, when prison seemed all but certain, President Bush wiped away the former White House aide's 2 1/2-year sentence in the CIA leak case.

Bush's move came Monday, just five hours after a federal appeals panel ruled that Libby could not delay his prison term. His prospects for an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court seemed bleak. The former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, Libby was just waiting for a date to surrender.

After months of sidestepping pardon questions, Bush stepped in. He did not issue a pardon but erased a prison sentence that he felt was just too harsh.

My Way News - U.S.: Iran Helped in Deadly Iraq Strike

BAGHDAD (AP) - Iranian forces helped plan one of the most sophisticated militant assaults of the Iraq war - a January raid in which gunmen posed as an American security team and launched an attack that killed five U.S. soldiers, an American general said Monday.

U.S. military spokesman Brig. Gen. Kevin J. Bergner also accused Iran of using its Lebanese ally, the Shiite militia Hezbollah, as a "proxy" to arm Shiite militants in Iraq.

The claims were an escalation in U.S. accusations that Iran is fueling Iraq's violence, which the government in Tehran has denied. It was also the first time the U.S. military has said Hezbollah has a direct role - which, if true, would bring a dangerous new player into Iraq's conflict.

Hezbollah has denied any activities in Iraq, saying it operates only in Lebanon.

My Way News - Senate Blocks Immigration Bill

My Way News - Senate Blocks Immigration Bill: "WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections. The bill's supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and clear the way for final passage of the legislation, which critics assailed as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate. Senators in both parties said the issue is so volatile that Congress is highly unlikely to revisit it this fall or next year, when the presidential election will increasingly dominate American politics." Victory! At least victory against amnesty. Now its time to really put on pressure to fully secure our borders. I'm talking about all borders, north and south as well as ports. We are at war, in case you didn't know. The enemy wants to kill us (Americans, conservative or liberal) anyway they can. We must know who comes in to the country. I hope the hoard of citizens that forced this amnesty bill to die will not let up on securing the borders. I know it's more the administration that has failed us than congress, but congress can certainly help push the president to do the right thing.

My Way News - Immigration Bill Faces Crucial Vote

My Way News - Immigration Bill Faces Crucial Vote

WASHINGTON (AP) - Conservative Republican senators and a handful of Democrats are trying to put a final knife in President Bush's plan for legalizing millions of unlawful immigrants.

A broad immigration bill, embracing what critics call amnesty, survived a series of unfriendly amendments Wednesday. Supporters pointed to the bill's tighter borders and workplace rules to keep it alive.

Both sides agreed the crucial vote occurs Thursday. Supporters must gain 60 votes in the 100-member chamber to limit debate and clear the way for a roll call on final passage, perhaps by Friday. Anything less will likely doom the legislation until a new president and Congress take office in 2009.

We wait with bated breath.

Wireless breakthrough delivers electrical energy without power cord | Chicago Tribune

Wireless breakthrough delivers electrical energy without power cord | Chicago Tribune
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- In a perfect world, there'd be no wires. They clutter the view, get tangled behind desks and limit how far networks can reach. That's why the telegraph gave way to the radio. Cell phones unstrung telecommunications. Wi-Fi liberated computer data. Now the last knotty wire that seemed destined to remain, the power cord, could be on its way out. Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers announced last week that they had made a 60-watt light bulb glow by sending it energy wirelessly, potentially previewing a future in which cell phones and other gadgets get juice without having to be plugged in.
This is truly amazing. The whole "noise cancellation" principle blows my mind and makes me wonder how it will affect fundamental mathematics. But now that MIT is having success with "re-instating" the canceled noise, I am truly amazed. Sending power through the air is something I've thought about for years. I like to think of it as encryption. The power source encrypts the amperage so it is undetectable and hopefully harmless. Then it sends it through the air and and a receiver collects it and then decrypts it so it can be used. They are 40 to 45% efficient according to the article. What happens to the 55 to 60% of power that is not used? I hope that when this is eventually implemented we don't have to worry about our livers being cooked accidentally!

It has never been established what was on those trucks, at least not publicly.

My Way News - Agreement Near on Iraq Funding Bill:
"WASHINGTON (AP) - Flinching in the face of a veto threat, Democratic congressional leaders neared agreement with the Bush administration Tuesday on legislation to pay for the Iraq war without setting a timeline for troop withdrawal. Several officials said the emerging compromise bill would cost about $120 billion, including as much as $8 billion for Democratic domestic priorities - originally resisted by the White House - such as disaster relief for Hurricane Katrina victims and farmers hurt by drought. After a bruising veto struggle over war funding, congressional leaders in both political parties said they hoped the compromise would be cleared for President Bush's signature by Friday. Despite the concession, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters that the legislation would be the first war-funding bill sent to Bush since the U.S. invasion of Iraq 'where he won't get a blank check.' My Way News - Pentagon Tells 35,000: Prepare to Deploy: "WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon has notified more than 35,000 Army soldiers to be prepared to deploy to Iraq beginning this fall, a move that would allow commanders to maintain the ongoing buildup of troops through the end of the year if needed. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said Tuesday the deployment orders, which have been signed by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, do not mean that the military has made a decision to keep the increased level of 20 brigades in Iraq through December. A brigade is roughly 3,500 soldiers. Instead, he said the decision gives the Pentagon the 'capability' to carry the buildup to the end of the year. The replacement forces, Whitman said, would give commanders in Iraq the flexibility they need to complete the mission there. The announcement, said Whitman, has 'nothing to do' with a decision to extend the troop buildup. He said the Pentagon 'has been very clear that a decision about the duration of the surge will depend on conditions on the ground.'"

My Way News - House Pitches New Iraq Plan

My Way News - House Pitches New Iraq Plan: "House Democrats want to provide a bill that supports the troops, but not give Bush a blank check on the deeply unpopular and costly war. Further complicating matters, several House liberals oppose funding the war at all while other more conservative Democrats are reluctant to tie strings to a bill needed by the troops. The new version is likely to meet resistance in the Senate. Several Senate Democrats said they would oppose a short-term funding bill because it leaves open the question of whether troops will get the resources they need after July. 'There's the question of why it wasn't fully funded,' said Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb. If the House version of the bill fails in conference with the Senate, Democratic leaders say their members will have other chances to affect Iraq policy. Party leaders have pointed to the 2008 defense authorization bill, which helps to set Pentagon policy, as well as the 2008 appropriations bills. However, that plan could meet resistance by members reluctant to watch their carefully crafted bills sink under a presidential veto. Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., chairman of the Armed Services Committee, has drafted a defense authorization bill that requires U.S. officials to report on progress made on the war.
