Stocks surge higher, but credit worries persist - Yahoo! News

Stocks surge higher, but credit worries persist - Yahoo! News: "NEW YORK - Wall Street snapped back Tuesday after its biggest sell-off in years amid growing expectations that lawmakers will salvage a $700 billion rescue plan for the financial sector. But the seized-up credit markets where businesses turn to raise money showed no sign of relief." So not 1000 pts. but pretty impressive. I'm thinking that tomorrow we will start hearing a much scaled back "bailout", more like 400 billion. I heard Obama has attempted to steal the Republicans idea of raising insurance to $250,000. It won't work. This was proposed and thrown out by the Democrat majority, and now Obama proposes it and it's magically back in. We won't let him get away with it. Once we get the proposed bailout scaled way back (it should be less than $100 billion or nothing at all but it won't) and the conservatives get more say into what is done, then watch this pass with huge majorities, maybe even unanimously and watch the markets shoot up through the roof. The Fed will finally be able to pull back on the money supply, which will help inflation, energy is going down which will help a lot also. Things are looking good for President Bush's exit. He should be thankful conservatives saved his ... again.

McCain's camp blames Obama on bailout failure - Yahoo! News

McCain's camp blames Obama on bailout failure - Yahoo! News: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican John McCain's campaign blamed presidential rival Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats on Monday for the congressional rejection of a $700 billion rescue plan for Wall Street and said Obama failed a test of leadership." I actually felt somewhat relieved that this monster failed. Why does Bush think he and others can just ram gigantic things through without much or any debate? The Dow plummeted today, $777 and 7%. Sounds lucky to me. I predict we will soon have a 1000 pt. day, maybe tomorrow. (That's 1000 pts. up.) I think what is happening is perhaps a correction where ownership is transferring from Wall Street to Main Street (as the smart guys on TV say). This kind of bargain doesn't come around very often, last time was 21 years ago. People see this and I believe us normal guys will be gobbling up stocks.

BBC NEWS | Business | Bush says bail-out will be passed

BBC NEWS | Business | Bush says bail-out will be passed: "President George W Bush has said that legislators will rise to the occasion and pass the proposed $700bn 380bn Wall Street rescue plan." 700,000,000,000! That's so much I can't comprehend it. It's like 700,000 millionaires! One side of me says we should forget this and let these stupid companies collapse. They failed in the market because of stupidity. Why should they be rewarded for their own choices? Then the other side realizes if we don't do something, there is probably going to be a domino effect and things will get really bad. But $700 Billion?! There's something that stinks about this. Why is this coming up now and why is it being pushed through so fast? It reminds me of comprehensive immigration reform.

McCain to attend debate even without bailout deal - Yahoo! News

McCain to attend debate even without bailout deal - Yahoo! News: "The action contradicted the position McCain had taken Wednesday, when he announced, 'I'm directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the Commission on Presidential Debates to delay Friday night's debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.'" I think my idea would have worked much better than this. McCain simply looks dumb now.

Android

Android As cool as the iPhone is, I think this is going to be big. I'm going to go ahead and say I think it will be the sleeper for 2008. Already, I see stuff I so wish I had on my iPhone like Copy and Paste, Multi-tasking, something about a compass feature... Also, I'm afraid that Google is not going to continue developing on the iPhone, which is very tragic. I see this google phone as potentially being more fun than the iPhone and more productive. The only thing Google should have done different is make it exclusive to one vendor. This the main advantage Apple has in that a developer doesn't need to tweak his app to multiple devices, like MS Mobile developers.

Obama Rebuffs McCain on Debate Delay - NYTimes.com

Obama Rebuffs McCain on Debate Delay - NYTimes.com: "short time later, Mr. Obama appeared at a news conference in Clearwater, Fla., and said that while he agreed “there are times for politics and there are times to rise above politics and do what’s right, ” he saw no need to cancel the debate, scheduled for Friday night at the University of Mississippi. “This is exactly the time when people need to hear from the candidates,” he said. He added: “Part of the president’s job is to deal with more than one thing at once. In my mind it’s more important than ever.” Mr. Obama said that he and Mr. McCain had spoken for about five minutes by telephone on Wednesday afternoon, but during that conversation he said he was not left with the impression that Mr. McCain planned to skip the debate. The two men agreed in principle to issue a joint statement about the bipartisan need for a government bailout, providing it met a list of oversight conditions." McCain should go to a "leadership meeting" as he describes on Friday and have Palin fill in for him at the debate. Ohhhhh, that would be fun to see, Barack standing all smug waiting for the absent McCain and he's about to proclaim he's the winner by default when Sarah Palin walks in suddenly and maybe a bit hurredly and says, "Let's get this on." That would be so fun to see.

BBC NEWS | Americas | New face of Canada's lumberjacks: "The Africans who work here do not take weekends off. Montreal, where they have left wives and children behind, is not a weekend destination. Driving there takes almost seven hours." This made me remember my idea for Red Zones. http://thpope.blogspot.com/2005/09/red-disney.html

McCain to kick off final drive for presidency - Yahoo! News

McCain to kick off final drive for presidency - Yahoo! News: "T. PAUL, Minn. - Republican presidential nominee John McCain begins his final drive for the White House with a jump-start from running mate Sarah Palin that cast the 72-year-old senator as the obvious choice for a nation hungry for change." McCain did a good job picking his running mate. The viscous personal attacks on her from the liberal wackos in the democrat party as well as the "old" media proves that she must be a strong conservative. I listened to parts of her convention speech and I am impressed with her speaking ability and the content of it. So, what happens now if McCain wins with a landslide. It may not seem possibly now, but Palin is igniting the base finally. Palin seems a stronger conservative than McCain (I'm not sure if would even call McCain a conservative), but she's running as VP. If McCain wins strong, is it a setback for conservatism?
