$10 USB power outlet leaves no plug behind

I've been waiting for this to appear for awhile. I think USB connections will eventually be the standard outlet sometime in the future since so many devices need DC rather than AC. Maybe 5-10 years.
$10 USB power outlet leaves no plug behind: "
Don't freak out or anything. But all that time you spent building a DIY in-wall USB charger may have been for naught. Of course, you've gained a useful learning experience and potentially gotten a lesson in the dangers of electricity, but you could have simply ordered this TruPower UCS outlet from FastMac, which packs the same two USB charging ports as the DIY outlet, along with two standard power outlets for your other power-hungry devices. Best of all, it only costs the same ten bucks that the DIY option would have set you back, but it looks like it won't start shipping until sometime early next year."

Iowa Soon to be Bankrupt?

Iowa budget gap could reach $1 billion | GazetteOnline.com: "DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa will face a budget gap of more than$1 billion next year, the largest gap in state history. A budget review from the Legislative Services Agency predictslawmakers will face a projected shortfall of $1.07 billion in thefiscal year beginning July 1. The state has coped with the projected gap by ordering a 10percent across-the-board cut in spending and proposing layoffs. But the new estimate is worse than previous shortfalls, and IowaHouse Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy says the state will likely eliminate entire programs. The state’s Revenue Estimating Committee will meet on Dec. 11. Its report will dictate how much Gov. Chet Culver can spend in thenext budget year." It's going to be a lot bigger than a $1 billion gap before it's done.

Suspect in Cop Killings Was Out on Street Despite Lengthy Rap Sheet, Sentences - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

This will be the last we hear about Huckabee. He's done for after hearing he commuted this guy's sentence back in 2000. I never really cared much for Huckabee since I heard in the last election he was mocking Fred Thompson, a fellow Christian, on a TV talk show. I had other problems with his record as governor, such as raising taxes, but that was the big one that did it for me. Christians should not mock and impugn other Christians like that and a former pastor should know it. Suspect in Cop Killings Was Out on Street Despite Lengthy Rap Sheet, Sentences - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com: "His criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington, according to The Seattle Times. The newspaper said Benmosche has complained to AIG's board about the outcome of the Treasury Department's pay review which slashed pay for a number of AIG executives by 91 percent from 2008." Oh goody! If they get a 91% pay cut, that must mean I get a 91% pay increase! What? No? I thought that was the point of this? You mean my pay has absolutely nothing to do with AIG executives' pay! 5 pct. of Americans plan to buy a home next year - Yahoo! News

This is how these guys love to think. A guy gets a pay cut, but man he was so lucky to get a reduction in his mortgage payments to "cushion the blow!" Some days I just want to rip out what little hair I have left. Obama's policies, which double-down on FDR's, will also drag this downturn out for way longer than it had to be. Obama can't seem to figure out that it doesn't help us to have government throw in a trillion dollars because it takes 4 trillion dollars out of our pockets to get there. Government gets it power from our wealth. The conservative way would be to let us keep our wealth rather than steal more of it. 5 pct. of Americans plan to buy a home next year - Yahoo! News: "One of the survey participants, Joe Handley of Harrington, Del., called his lender last December to consolidate a second mortgage and cut his interest rate from 6.75 percent to 5.25 percent. 'We wanted to build up our savings for emergencies,' the 37-year-old said. His timing was prescient. In July, Handley, who works in the information technology department for the State of Delaware, took a pay cut and the $400 monthly savings from the new loan has helped cushion the blow."

Obama signs bill assisting homebuyers, jobless - Yahoo! News: "WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signed a $24 billion economic stimulus bill into law Friday, giving tax incentives to prospective homebuyers and additional jobless benefits to those idled by the business slump." Like I've been saying, Sugar Daddy will take of us all. What's another $24,000,000,000? I mean that's just a measly 1.2% of the budget.

I'm sure Barney Frank and gang will bail these guys out again. If you are poor and want your own house, don't bother going the traditional methods, such as HUD or Habitat for Humanity, you'll just get a poor man's house going that route. You need to go to the bank and say Barney sent you and voila, you have a mortgage (optional to pay back) for a $250,000+ house. And just for kicks, we (American Taxpayer) will throw in $8000 (costs us only $24000)!

Obama to Sign Bill Extending Homebuyer Credit, Jobless Benefits

Obama to Sign Bill Extending Homebuyer Credit, Jobless Benefits This is simply insane. You can expect that each of these government handouts cost the taxpayer about 4 times what the direct benefit is. In other words, $8,000 for a new home buyer costs the taxpayer $32,000. So for the additional $8,000 being put into the economy, $32,000 is being sucked out of it, a net loss of $24,000. Now Obama can do some accounting tricks to make it look good for awhile, but it's all going to catch up soon. This is what I mean that Obama and the Democrats are pushing us into another Great Depression. We would have been completely recovered by now if nothing at all was done. Instead, they are dragging out the already longest recession. Eventually the "double dip" that's coming will really wake people up. Wait until seniors go to deposit their Social Security checks and they bounce!

Big Government - Blog Archive - Obama’s Shock Troops: SEIU and Political Intimidation in St. Louis

Big Government - Blog Archive - Obama’s Shock Troops: SEIU and Political Intimidation in St. Louis: "Yesterday, Pastor Himes provided powerful, and courageous, witness to the union violence he and his wife saw in St. Louis on August 6th. They provided strong testament to the union attack on Kenneth Gladney. But, his comments only dealt with the events of that day. Evidence is emerging that the events of that day went far beyond St. Louis and may have been part of a nationally orchestrated campaign to intimidate and silence dissent." I knew stronger violence was going to happen at these town hall meetings. I was somewhat surprised to hear little more occurring. It looks like there is an active cover-up going on. If it's coming out of the white house, I certainly hope it's exposed. I think Breitbart (biggovernment.com) can and will do it.

Survey: Most economists see recovery beginning - Yahoo! News I collect these stories. I wonder how many clipped these same type of articles back in the Great Depression. These guys are claiming that inflation will remain low even though trillions of dollars are being pumped into it. So many people will be out of work therefore companies will have to keep their prices low. Nobody will be able to afford their products. Let's think about this. Because prices have to stay low, margins will continue to be cut, wages will stay low or be cut or more layoffs, and somehow companies will be expanding, I guess because Obama will be sharing his stash with them. Does this make sense to anyone? I guess it's great news for Marxists. The economy is becoming more and more unstable and therefore highly unpredictable. Oh yeah, I forgot that Obama lost the Olympics for us. I'm holding on to that for what little joy I have.

Strap on your Depends, Here It Comes

So I'm minding my own business, when I come across this in AP: AP Poll: Health care overhaul has a pulse - Yahoo! News: "Americans overwhelmingly say it's important that health care legislation have the support of both parties, but Democrats are showing signs of impatience. Fifty-seven percent say Obama and the Democrats should pass a bill this year even if they are unable to win support from Republicans." I first read it that 57% of Americans wanted a bill passed even without Republicans. But re-reading it I see they are talking about Democrats, but the wording is tricky and I'm sure AP is not all too concerned that people are likely to misinterpret what the facts are. The latest Rasmussen poll shows 46% for and 50% against. So I think there is a shift, very modest though, for health care destruction. But, it's understandable why. We're nearly burnt out opposing it. Obama is nothing but relentless for his Marxism ideals. If a vote becomes imminent then things will change. But I fear they are actually going to sneak this massive government takeover of health care through an amendment to an unrelated bill. Right now, that's some TARP bill, but who knows what it will be. They (Obama and the Democrats) think they can get away with this. If they do it, then watch the walkers and wheelchairs fly.

snopes.com: What Does Obama Read?: 'The Post-American World'

snopes.com: What Does Obama Read?: 'The Post-American World' I got a forwarded email with this picture. I looked it up for authenticity and found on Snopes.com that it is authentic. The email got a little wrong, however, I believe it got it right that Obama is an ideologue and his goals are Marxist in nature. Even though Snopes tried to make it look not as bad as it is, I believe they are still damaging Obama's image inadvertently. You should read what they say and check out what his own press guy says he's reading currently. When are Americans going to wake up?
"As for what the president has been reading lately, according to deputy press secretary Bill Burton, President Obama brought the following books with him to his
August 2009 vacation at Martha's Vineyard:

Republican Lawmakers Turn Up the Heat on ACORN - Political News - FOXNews.com

Does America have the guts to shut down Obama's group(ies)? I doubt it, sadly. It's been very depressing watching the swing go back to tyranny. I believe we may very well be too late to stop this. I think Obamacare is the pinnacle here. If he gets it, then we will know that it truly is too late. Republican Lawmakers Turn Up the Heat on ACORN - Political News - FOXNews.com: "King called on Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, to hold investigations into ACORN, the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, which also has been accused of widespread voter fraud during the 2008 presidential election. King also asked for a full 'financial forensic analysis' into the group on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service."

Iowa City headed toward juvenile curfew | GazetteOnline.com

This is why I call this blog "Liberal Mecca." We've had assaults, muggings, riots, even shootings, at alarming levels this year. Many times minors have been involved. Yet, this council struggles with a midnight curfew for minors! Well, I've got news for them. This is such a puny ordinance, it's not going to have any effect at all. In fact, I believe these gang banger proteges will challenge this very aggressively. The fine is going to be $50. I doubt they'll collect 50 cents. The sad thing is that you'd expect the voters to rise up and throw these bleeding heart liberals out, but no chance of that in this area. Things won't change here until everything literally collapses. Iowa City headed toward juvenile curfew | GazetteOnline.com: "Some who supported the curfew said they struggled with the decision but ultimately concluded it would be a helpful tool for police in response to growing concerns over public safety."

Obama's Recession Drags On

6,230,000 people are receiving a salary for doing absolutely no work. Everything they get from unemployment is charity from us who are still working. Funny that the number of people that have filed for unemployment is more than the combined total populations of Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington DC, and Kansas City. New jobless claims dip less than expected to 570K - Yahoo! News: "The number of people receiving jobless benefits totaled 6.23 million, up 92,000 from the previous week, which had been the lowest level since early April. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected that number, which lags new claims by a week, to fall to 6.13 million."

July new US home sales up 9.6 percent - Yahoo! News

This story is loaded with BAD news, but you wouldn't know by the headline. These month over month increases mean very little to me. I'm interested in year over year. This is the peak season for house sales, it's expected that sales will be up from the month before. By the way, it also says in the article that sales are down 70% from four years ago for the month of July, that new home construction is DOWN 3% from May, and that the median price is slightly DOWN. July new US home sales up 9.6 percent - Yahoo! News: "The median sales price of $210,100, however, was down slightly from $210,400 in June and was off 11.5 percent from year-ago levels. Prices are still up from March's low of $205,100."

What Really Happened in Bozeman

I got this as a forwarded email. I can't verify it's authenticity, but I do believe it based on other things I've seen this administration do. 50 years ago, they might have gotten away with this, but today, they'll have to shut down the Internet to stop us from getting the real truth out. If the intimidation from Union Thugs continues, it's going to get a lot more violent.
Hello All, By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since Bill and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you. Whatever you decide to do with the information is up to you. If you chose to share this email with others I do ask that you DELETE my email address before you forward this on. On Wednesday, August 5th it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date. On about Tuesday Bill found out that they would be holding the "Town Hall" at the airport. (This is only because Bill knows EVERYONE at the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there.. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you can not get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public. FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$ During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession. $$$$$ Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday 9am at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday. Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a Local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm.......900 tickets just DISAPPEARED. This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think...with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for. On Friday Bill and I got out to the airport about 10:45am. The groups that wanted to protest Obama's spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal) and unloaded right there. It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd. The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them.....professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area) Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man. So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through.. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest. If you are wondering about the press.....Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds. We did have some local news media around us from this state and Idaho. Speaking of the local media...they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn't want anyone to have to think off the top of their head. It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance woes........the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors...EVERYTHING was staged!!! I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was not living in the United States of America, more like the USSR!! I was physically nauseous. Bill and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC. Scary!! Kathy Bozeman , Montana

I wish someone would sue the movie studios. Why can't I put my DVD's (and VHS tapes) on my computer for me to watch? Report: Economists Say Recession Over, Want Bernanke to Stay - Political News - FOXNews.com

Productivity is up, the experts tell us. But it's because of the massive layoffs that have occurred. It can't be sustained. Gaps in businesses will start to show. I'm saying that the economy is only getting better on paper. Since the accounting methods are not accounting for gaps in business, because of the turmoil of job losses, then we have this temporary effect of showing things are getting better. They are not. You have to look at the fundamentals to see that, such as employment and housing foreclosures and spending versus earnings. These are all solidly down. I believe there is a lot of instability going to show in the fourth quarter and starting next year mainly because of government meddling. Report: Economists Say Recession Over, Want Bernanke to Stay - Political News - FOXNews.com: "However, in the current recession, companies have been using the productivity gains to bolster their bottom lines in the face of declining sales. Many companies have been reporting second-quarter earnings results that have beaten expectations despite falling sales, due largely to their aggressive cost cutting."

White House E-Mails Shed New Light on Rove's Involvement in U.S. Attorney Firings - Political News - FOXNews.com

This is one of those things that will die on the vine. The Democrats made a huge deal over this and there is nothing there. Nothing can come of it no matter what they say, and they know it. But they need an escape and pushing this out now guarantees it very little publicity yet they can claim to their rabid supporters that they did something. White House E-Mails Shed New Light on Rove's Involvement in U.S. Attorney Firings - Political News - FOXNews.com: "The committee released more than 5,400 pages of White House and Republican National Committee e-mails, along with transcripts of closed-door testimony by Miers and Rove. Spending Rises on Higher Gas Prices as Income Slips - WSJ.com

Spending Rises on Higher Gas Prices as Income Slips - WSJ.com We're spending more money (because we have to) and getting less money for our work which equals more debt for all of us. Yeah, that sounds like a great recovery plan. At least we can get $4500 for our clunker, oh yeah, you probably don't qualify for that either, but at least you get to help the few that do. And think of all the bureaucrats you're helping to stay employed.

Democrats trying for GOP support for clunker funds - Yahoo! News

They don't need a single Republican for anything! They are only fooling the drones. Democrats trying for GOP support for clunker funds - Yahoo! News: "WASHINGTON – Facing a White House deadline, Senate Democrats are struggling to win over enough reluctant Republicans to pass a $2 billion extension of a popular rebate program that gives consumers up to $4,500 to trade in their old gas guzzlers for more fuel-efficient vehicles."

Monday, August 03, 2009

The Associated Press: LaHood confident Senate will rescue car program

60 percent! He must be talking about people trading in their "clunkers" getting 60 percent more, but it sure doesn't read that way. Of course, nobody in the state run media really challenges anything from this administration, so we really don't know what it is. They could have just as easily said 600 percent. I doubt in the end this will be the case. I'm sure there's a lot of fraud going on here. Wouldn't it had been easier (and cheaper) to just give everybody a nice tax cut (and more effective)? I can't imagine how much is being spent on the bureaucracy and disposing of these clunkers. What this will end up doing to the rest of us is we will get to pay for this with tax increases. Another example of how doing these kind of boon dongles just suck money out of the economy, which is exactly what we don't need. The Associated Press: LaHood confident Senate will rescue car program: "WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration appealed to the Senate Monday to bail out the popular but reeling 'cash for clunkers' rebate program, arguing that it already has improved vehicle fuel efficiency by over 60 percent."

U.S. Woos Damascus by Easing Export Ban - WSJ.com

This is truly sick. Syria (designated a terrorist state by our own government) is the enemy of the U.S., but apparently they are not an enemy of our current President (Barack Nifong Fonda Hussein Obama). I missed the part in the story that states they've stopped supporting Hamas and Hezbollah to justify the lifting of these sanctions. U.S. Woos Damascus by Easing Export Ban - WSJ.com: "While significant, U.S. officials said Monday that Washington's move doesn't mark a formal lifting or easing of its sanctions on Damascus. President George W. Bush authorized the sanctions in 2004, under legislation known as the Syria Accountability Act, specifically because of Damascus's support for the militant groups Hezbollah and Hamas, which are fighting Israeli forces from Lebanon and the Palestinian territories."

GDP Data Likely to Herald an Upturn - WSJ.com

Again, "depression" is on their minds. We'll soon be hearing it come from Obama's people. GDP Data Likely to Herald an Upturn - WSJ.com: "The government will report on Friday how the U.S. economy performed in the second quarter, and economists expect it will say the economy contracted at about a 1.5% annual rate, marking the fourth consecutive decline. That typically would be seen as bad news -- but not after gross domestic product, the value of all goods and services produced by the economy, shrank by 6.3% in the fourth quarter and 5.5% in first, causing many economists to worry about the possibility of a depression."

Bernanke Feared a Second Great Depression - WSJ.com

There's that word again, depression. They seem supremely confident that we are in a recovery now, even though we still contracted 1.5% annually for the 2nd quarter. Um, we are only in the third quarter. I think we need at least one, maybe two quarters of stagnation before we can claim we've bottomed. Well, maybe they're right this time... Bernanke Feared a Second Great Depression - WSJ.com: "KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Sunday said he engineered the central bank's controversial actions over the past year because 'I was not going to be the Federal Reserve chairman who presided over the second Great Depression.'"

Retail titan Wal-Mart launches 'sustainability index' - Yahoo! News

This will set up lawsuits against manufacturer's from local and state governments. You read it hear first. Wal-mart is unwittingly (I hope) providing the ammunition. Government will begin going through landfills and documenting waste and begin suing manufacturers to recoup their cost from cleanup and health issues caused from pollution. This is just like they did to tobacco companies. It's for the children! Retail titan Wal-Mart launches 'sustainability index' - Yahoo! News: "The database, dubbed the sustainability index, could put information about how environmentally-friendly suppliers, manufacturers and their products are, just a garment label or barcode-scan away for shoppers, according to Wal-Mart executives speaking at a webcast gathering of their suppliers."

Unemployment tops 10 percent in 15 states in June - Yahoo! News

Remember that the way they figure this changed in the 90's, making it actually lower than it would have been, so we really can't compare today's unemployment rate with what it was in the 80's or earlier. I'm saying it's even worse than they claim. Sometime this year, I'm predicting we will start hearing the word "depression" from the media and soon after from Obama's people. It's simply too late to turn this around now. Unemployment tops 10 percent in 15 states in June - Yahoo! News: "The Federal Reserve this week projected that the national unemployment rate, currently at a 26-year high of 9.5 percent, will pass 10 percent by the end of the year. Most Fed policymakers said it could take 'five or six years' for the economy and the labor market to get back on a path of long-term health. To get there, consumers must return to a regular spending groove and housing prices need to start rising again."

Official Google Blog: Celebrating Gay Pride 2009

All around Google, we're proud of our work, our culture and, most importantly, our people. In the spirit of celebration, this spring and summer Googlers have participated in Pride celebrations in Tel Aviv, New York, Zürich, San Francisco and many other cities around the world. Pride is a time for the LGBT* community along with families, friends and supporters to stand up for equality, and to honor those who paved the way for us to express sexual orientation and gender identity openly. *LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered people and is also intended to include people who identify as queer, asexual or intersexed, amongst others.
The number of Christians is far greater than the number of LGBT people (that makes me chuckle whenever I see that now). Christians are truly being persecuted (that is murdered) around the world and especially in places like Africa. I wonder when Google will start marching for Christians? The truth is, I would be insulted if they took up a cause for Christians. Everyone knows it would be phony.

GM confirms Michigan plant will make new small car - Yahoo! News

Michigan has 14.1% unemployment. Maybe these 1,400 jobs saved will help that by... maybe .01%. That is until the money from the government stops flowing, because I don't think many Americans are looking for subcompacts. They're death traps. One day we will realize Obama is not the savior for our country as he has been portrayed by the sycophant media. GM confirms Michigan plant will make new small car - Yahoo! News: "DETROIT – General Motors Corp. is confirming it will use an idled assembly plant in Orion Township, Mich., and a parts stamping facility in Pontiac, Mich., to build small and compact cars, a move expected save 1,400 jobs."

KB Home Business Up or maybe Down?

I found both of these on Yahoo! News. First article posted by AP at 10:04 am ET:

Second article posted by Reuters at 10:39 am ET (35 minutes later):

Will the terrorists be re-located to USA?

I asked my two senators and representative if terrorists from GITMO will be coming to Iowa. Rep. Loebsack (D) wouldn't say. Sen. Harkin (D) first thought I was asking about illegal immigration and then replied with something more on the subject, yet still incoherent, like all of his other ideas. He won't say either. Sen. Grassley (R) doesn't care evidently. No response from him. Here's Harkin's response: June 26, 2009

Mr. Thomas Pope

416 N. Stewart St.

North Liberty, IA 52317

Dear Thomas:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. I applaud President Obama’s recent executive orders, which suspended the military commissions at Guantanamo Bay and ordered the closure of the facility within a year.

I believe that closing this prison is a critical step in waging a smarter, more focused, and more effective fight against the terrorists who threaten us. This is the position of Secretary of Defense Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mullen, four former Secretaries of State, including Colin Powell, Henry Kissinger, and James Baker, and countless others.

In the 110th Congress, I was the proud author of a bill to shut down the prison, S. 1469, the “Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility Closure Act of 2007.” With this legislation, I sought a practical approach to closing the Guantanamo Bay prison as expeditiously as possible.

The seven-year-old prison at Guantanamo is a stain on the honor of our country. By holding people at Guantanamo without charge, without judicial review, without appropriate legal counsel, and - in the past – subjecting many of them to what amounts to torture, we have not only forfeited the moral high ground, but we have damaged our international relationships and hindered our fight against the terrorists by giving our enemies a powerful recruiting tool.

I look forward to working with President Obama to close the facility at Guantanamo Bay in a way that protects our national security and ensures that those who have caused us harm are vigorously prosecuted, while we remain faithful to our ideals and values and uphold the rule of law.

Again, thanks for sharing your views with me. Please don't hesitate to let me know how you feel on any issue that concerns you.

Sincerely,

Tom Harkin

United States Senator

TH/amb

So what's significant about this story? Well, I think it is quite amazing that what happened last year in the flood was predicted over 40 years ago. I'm sure no one had even thought of "Man-made Global Warming" back then. Also, how ridiculous it was that we were so unprepared. Jobless rate hits 9.4 percent in May; layoffs slow - Yahoo! News

9.4%! That's higher than the 9.2% I heard just yesterday. I think it will be 10% before the end of this year. But they are so happy because the rate of people being canned is decreasing. Maybe that's because business is running out of "fat" to cut. That's usually how businesses get rid of people that are not completely incompetent, yet not really providing any value to the company. They don't really have a reason to fire them, so when layoffs come around, those are usually the first to go. This isn't over. As the article says (but tries to make it sound not so bad), nobody is hiring. There are companies collapsing all over the place. Do think it was just dumb luck one of the largest companies in the world has failed? No way. This is a trend and it may appear to be "slowing" but remember, it's still slowing. Everyday, there are companies barely making it as it is. They are trying to hold on, and maybe they can for awhile, but many are going to collapse if things don't get better soon. Now we really will see the effects of the "stimulus." The massive amount of money is not coming out of thin air, as they want you to believe. It's coming out of the economy. Trillions more are being sucked out as I write this. A lot gets put back, but a lot is simply diluted and making our real assets more worthless. Inflation is going to happen. Interest rates will sky rocket, and they'll keep raising our taxes. The more they monkey around with the markets, the more messed up it will become. Jobless rate hits 9.4 percent in May; layoffs slow - Yahoo! News: "The much smaller-than-expected reduction in payroll jobs, reported by the Labor Department on Friday, adds to evidence that the recession is loosening its hold on the country. It marked the fourth straight month that the pace of layoffs slowed."

If what Bush did is the cause, how do people think that doing it twice as much will fix this? It won't. And I promise you, I will do everything I possibly can to remind people that it may not be Obama's recession but sure is his depression. Filing Has Potential to Lift Economy in Long Term - WSJ.com: "The General Motors Corp. bankruptcy means months of shedding plants, brands, jobs and dealers just as the recession shows signs of abating. But part of the gamble is that it will prove to be better for the economy than the alternatives."

First Reply on GITMO shutdown

My first reply is from Rep. Loebsack (D). I believe this guy is truly a nice guy, but even nice guys can be Marxists. I don't think he is, but he is a Statist. Of course he didn't answer my question "How many Terrorists will be re-locating to Iowa?" But I didn't expect one. They never answer my questions. I'm going to get a complex.
May 28, 2009 Dear Mr. Pope,

Thank you for contacting me about the detention facility at the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I'm honored to represent you in Congress. Your opinion is very important to me and my priority is to provide Iowa's Second District with the best representation possible.

Beginning in 2002, nearly 800 people captured in Afghanistan and elsewhere have been transferred to the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Since then, the Bush Administration transferred all but roughly 250 detainees out of Guantanamo Bay, with the majority sent to a third country for continued detention or release. On January 22, 2009, President Obama issued an Executive Order requiring the Guantanamo Bay detention facility to be closed no later than January 21, 2010. The President also established an interagency task force to provide recommendations on the transfer of the detainees to another location.

The closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility raises a number of complex security, legal, and logistical issues, including where the detainees will be held and what laws and regulations will apply to them. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I believe we must find a way forward that protects our national security, upholds our laws, and allows for the prosecution of known terrorists in order to assure that the convictions are upheld, justice is carried out, and to assure that terrorists are held accountable and do not return to the battlefield. Please be assured that I will closely monitor the Administration's review of detainee policy and will keep your thoughts in mind should legislation concerning the detainees at Guantanamo Bay come before the House of Representatives.

Thank you again for contacting me about this important issue. I encourage you to visit my website at www.loebsack.house.gov and sign up for my e-newsletters to stay informed of the work I'm doing in Congress. I am proud to serve Iowa's Second District, and I am committed to working hard for you.

Sincerely, Dave Loebsack Member of Congress

North Korea fires short-range missile - Yahoo! News

I remember years ago reading that North Korea has the capability to hit the US west coast, but not very accurately. How accurate do you have to be with a nuclear bomb? I wonder where all the stories are about missile defense? Just another wasteful military program that Bush did, right? North Korea fires short-range missile - Yahoo! News: "In a draft resolution obtained by Reuters, the U.N. Security Council called for enforcement of sanctions imposed after Pyongyang's 2006 nuclear test, which included a limited trade and arms embargo that had been widely ignored. A vote could come as early as next week, diplomats said." (emphasis added)

Climate-change disasters kill 300,000 a year - Yahoo! News

Climate-change disasters kill 300,000 a year - Yahoo! News: "The report suggests that rising sea levels, desertification and changing rainfall patterns are reducing many people's access to safe drinking water and food. This in turn increases diarrhea, malaria and malnutrition." The Crude Death Rate is the number of deaths per 1,000. I got the following from World Resources Institute under their portal called EarthTrends. http://earthtrends.wri.org. From 1950-1955 the world CDR was 20. From 2000-2005 the world CDR was 9. These manipulators from the The Global Humanitarian Forum and the "reporters" have access to this just as you and I, and yet they still want to make these ridiculous claims. How can it be that the CDR has dropped in half and yet we have so many people dying from so-called Climate Change (aka weather)? Crisis after crisis after crisis. "Never waste a crisis"

GM bondholders urged to accept new debt deal - Yahoo! News

The government is the largest shareholder and creditor in what at least used to be our largest manufacturing industry. Definition of socialism from Dictionary.com:
"a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole."
What else do we call this? GM bondholders urged to accept new debt deal - Yahoo! News: "Investors representing at least 35 percent of GM's bonds are expected to support the sweetened offer from the U.S. Treasury, which will be the automaker's largest shareholder and creditor."
