Zapped!

WASHINGTON (AP) FDA allows food producers to zap spinach, lettuce with radiation to kill food-poisoning germs. From Yahoo! News Alert I think this is great. Why has it took so long? The technology has been there for years if not decades and proven safe. I've heard before it was because of the public's fear of radiation or irradiation. If true (and I don't buy that fully), then why would we accept it now?
